It’s that time of year again…for the freshest stickers in Hackerdom! And a sweet t-shirt to boot!

Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Locally, this event usually occurs in person at theClubhou.se, though this year everything will be virtual. The month-long event will include numerous virtual check-ins and meetings. The objective of the hackathon is familiarize those new to programming with how to use GitHub, a hosting platform for software development.

To get started you will need a Github account, register for the local event hosted by theClubhou.se here with MLH, and then RSVP for the local virtual events below.

Morgan Smith is the local organizer for Hacktoberfest in Augusta. She and her team will be kicking off Hacktoberfest on October 1st, 6-8pm, with an introduction to the month of activities. Weekly check-ins will occur the following three Thursdays from 5:30-6pm. The final shindig will be on October 29th! The same link will work for all five meetings :)
